On Sunday my friends and I continued to make more scenes towards our film ‘The Final Mission’. We’re making this film for fun, but I plan to use this so I can add it to a portfolio. It’s an exciting action film that I write the script and plan the story for. My friend Ed has a Canon camera that films at 25 FPS similar to the ones we use here at the college.
The image above is an original poster that I created on the first day of the course. Three weeks ago today. It was the first time I used photoshop and the images are screenshots from the film itself.
The image above shows the most recent scene, that we filmed yesterday. We all work together as a team to ensure the film is the best quality. I plan the story and write the script, Ed has the camera equipment, my friend Nick has the editing software (Hitfilm 4 Express) and the majority of props are either given to us from relatives (old clothing) and the gun props are mostly bought by myself and Nick.
The image above is me playing an extra in a scene where my main character isn’t used. We used a wide range of both broken and working BB guns and wear military like clothing. It takes us about 5 hours to film 5 minutes and the film when its finished should be about 30 minutes long. The editing is done by Nick and I and takes us a whole night to edit one scene together. We always edit together to get a second opinion and therefore have a better result.
With making a film there are literally countless challenges, and don’t think making ‘The Final Mission’ is remotely easy. People just don’t know how damn hard it is just to get people together. We started in January with no clear understanding of where the film was going, what the characters were called and we certainly didn’t have the skills or the props and equipment that we have now.
At first I filmed and edited it on my IPod, and fair enough I think it was as good as it could be. But compared to what we can produce now, it looks awful to say the least. It then took us until May where we decided to redo the whole thing, change the location, and finally get a decent editing program. It wasn’t until yesterday though that we officially re filmed everything we’ve done. I couldn’t be happier that we did though since it literally looks a million times better and I’m looking forward to showing everyone the finished product!
We are planning to finish the film with the new advantage of ‘Connect 2’ where I can now hire the equipment we need for free! I honestly got chills when I first saw it I couldn’t believe it! We had the lecture on how to use this last Wednesday where we also got a tour of the main building and all the studios and equipment it has to offer!
Excited is an understatement!
